Why Sport & Movement Matter

We use evidence-based strategies: fundamental movement skills practice blended with playful soccer games, explicit teaching, visual supports, and lots of success experiences.

Motor development & confidence
  • Builds core fundamental movement skills that underpin lifelong physical activity.

  • Increases body awareness, balance, coordination, and endurance in everyday routines (climbing stairs, playgrounds, self-care).

  • Communication, connection & play
  • Natural opportunities for turn-taking, joint attention, requesting, commenting, and following/giving instructions.

  • Peer play in a supported setting boosts social confidence and participation.

  • Self-regulation & wellbeing
  • Rhythmic movement and predictable routines can help with arousal regulation, attention, and emotional regulation.

  • Active play is linked with better sleep quality and daytime focus.

  • Healthy habits & inclusion
  • Establishes positive experiences of sport as a safe, fun place.

  • Normalises adaptations so children learn that everyone can play.

  • What Happens in a Session?

Each 45–60 minute class follows a predictable, visual schedule:

    • Welcome circle (warm-up, check-in)
    • Skill stations (2–3 short stations targeting FMS + soccer skills: dribbling, stopping, passing, shooting, balance/obstacle course)
    • Communication game (peer turn-taking, following cues, requesting equipment)
    • Mini-match (modified rules, small-sided play, success-focused)
    • Cool down & goodbye (stretch, praise, visual token/achievement)

We keep transitions short, offer choices, and build in movement and sensory breaks.

    Individualised Support

    • Initial snapshot: Quick pre-start chat to understand your child’s interests, goals, supports, and regulation profile.
    • On-field adjustments: Alternative balls, lighter cones, smaller goals, mats for waiting turns, first-then boards, visual timers.
    • Co-regulation: Quiet zone, headphones welcome, co-created regulation plan (heavy work, breath games).
    • Success plans: We set 1–2 personal goals (e.g., “kick a stationary ball”, “join group for 3 minutes”, “use AAC to request a turn”).

    Communication Supports (Multimodal)

    • Visuals: Schedule, choice boards, feelings chart, “my turn/your turn”, first-then.
    • AAC-friendly: We model on your child’s own device (LAMP, Proloquo, TD Snap, etc.) and provide core word boards for families without a device.
    • Gestures & keep word signs used alongside speech.
    • Peer scripts: Simple sentence starters to invite, include and praise peers

    Safety, accessibility & inclusion

    • Small ratios with dual-facilitator support.
    • Graded challenges: same activity, different levels (distance, ball size, speed, rules).
    • Clear boundaries with cones/tape, secure venue access.
    • Parent/caregiver nearby involvement welcome; siblings can be buddy players.
    • All behaviours are communication: we plan for exits, sensory needs, and rebuild success.
    • Sun-smart & hydration: hats, sunscreen, water bottle (spares available).

    What to bring

    • Comfortable clothing and closed-toe runners
    • Water bottle, hat, sunscreen
    • Your child’s AAC device (charged) or communication book
    • Any regulation tools that help (chewy, noise-reducing headphones)

    FAQ

Will my child be able to join if they’re new to groups or sport?

Yes. We plan individual entry points and success steps. Children can start with 1 station or a short time on the field and build up.

What if my child needs extra support with behaviour?

We anticipate needs, use visual structure, co-regulation, and positive behaviour supports. We’ll co-design a plan with you.

    Can we use NDIS?

Families who are self- or plan-managed may be able to claim under Capacity Building (Improved Daily Living / Social & Community Participation). Please check your plan and goals.

What if my child doesn’t use spoken words?

We embrace multimodal communication. We model on AAC devices/books and accept all communication (gestures, pointing, vocalisations, signs).

    Is this therapy?

It’s a therapy-informed community sport program. You can expect carry-over strategies you can use at home and daycare.
